Why did Microsoft decide that everyone wanted a system that needs an
administrator? Most home PC users only want the machine to start up and run
well.
Is VISTA just as ornery as XP? Thanks Bill W..

All NT-based OS's have administrators...that includes Vista

My guess is that many users, particularly businesses, offices and the like,
definately want administrators. Since that is the case, it is easier from a
programming and architectural structure point of view to make them all have
it. Can you think of any business where anyone (any employee) can modify a
system? If you left it out of XP Home but used it in XP Pro, how do you
accomadate those home users that want it?

The idea wasn't to create a log on to have more privileges, but to
create log ins with fewer privileges (the limited accounts).

An account with limited privileges has barriers against installing
applications and changing important operating system settings. As
restrictive as this sounds, it can be VERY useful in preventing
malicious software installations like viri, trojan horses, adware and
spyware. The limited status of the log in helps keep such mischief from
succeeding.

Of course an alternate log on with full privileges is necessary for when
software application installations and system setting changes are
necessary, thus the administrator class of accounts.

You should not normally run with administrator privileges. But beyond that,
the Administrator account is ther for emergencies when someone has messed up
the regular account so that it won't boot. You can have windows
automatically start up in a user account without logging in using TweakUI:
Tweakui for WinXP: Ver. 2.10 requires WinXP SP1 and later
