Why would Powerpoint 2007 be so difficult to use

I purchased PPT. 2007 Student, and it has no more power or grace than my 2000
PPT.
Can anyone tell me if the MENU section is supposed to be this difficult to
build a slide program?

MAybe you have to use it a little time to get use to the ribbon. After that
you'll surely enjoy this version

I have tried for three weeks to try and discover what advantages PPT.2007
has over PPT.2003. Does anyone out there know of any significant advantages?

Here is my list of new stuff in PPT 2007. You might find something here you
like:

My favorites are soft shadows, bevels, and the ability to create slide
layouts and add our own placeholders. Oh, and the selection and visibility
pane -- love that.

Also, there are third-party utilities you can use to customize the ribbon. I
recommend customizing it to add those tools you expect to be on certain
ribbons rather than just going back to the old menus. I work back and forth
in 2003 and 2007, and so I can't ever find what I want in either version! I
find it easier, though, in PPT 2007 when I've been working in it
consistently for a chunk of time and not having to go back and forth.

I like Patrick Schmid's Ribbon Customizer because it gives you more than
just the old-style menus.

I think if you give it a litte time, you may find that you actually like the
ribbon and can be productive with it. But I completely admit that
customizing it helps!

Seeing that you are coming from PPT 2000, you should check out the
animations. they improved massively in 2003. You now have entrance, exit,
emphasis, and motion path animations. You also have the ability to do these
animations on click, with previous, after previous, and even on the click of
another object on the slide.

if we live without making a difference, it makes no difference that we lived

I've just installed Office2007 Ultimate. Within a couple of days I have
made a few large presentations, including anaimated gif files as well as PP
animated features.

Sure the ribbon is "different", but in a fairly short time I found the
ribbon to be quite intuitive and straight-forward (all Office components,
not just Powerpoint). I'm also running Visio 2007 - pity it doesn't include
the Ribbon.

If you are happy with an early version of Office, use that. They will
co-exist on the one machine. We still have Office 2003; my wife needed to
do a number of Word docs in a hurry, didn't want to spend time learning the
Ribbon.

As far as asking what are the advantages - that is largely a matter of
personal taste and preference.
