Why won't wmv video play in wmp on my Web site?

This is a great help center. I have read all the posts and learned a lot.
They enabled me to get my videos embedded on my page. They work just as I
want in Preview, but not when I put them on the Web. When I click on the play
button, wmp says it is connecting but nothing happens.

I guess it is not finding the video file, but I can see it on the server. It
is in the same folder as on Frontpage. My ftp is a mirror image.

What could be the problem? :(

How did you create the code for the media player or did you copy and paste from somewhere?

I downloaded the wmp add-in, used Insert in FP to add it to the page and
followed the wmp wizard. I had already imported my wmv file into the media
folder in FP 2003. Then I double-clicked on the player and set it to not
start automatically. Then I ftp'd everything.

Thanks for the info. When the WMP wizard asked me which file to open, I used
the one in the Media folder in Frontpage. That is the one I also sent to the
server. But I will go back and go through everything again.

Not an FP user so the real FP'ers will have to step in to guide you but
reading back in your thread I think the problem started when you ftp'd
instead of publishing through FP. The file path is bad because of that.

Well, I don't know how to set up the path so my Web page will find the wmv
file that is on the server. I just tried using the wmp wizard in FP to select
the video, and I designated the path to the server file, but that did not
work at all.

my site is http://zimmer.csufresno.edu/~paula/

so wouldn't the path to the video be
http://zimmer.csufresno.edu/~paula/public_html/media/buffalo.wmv

I thought Frontpage took care of the pathways as long as you put things in
identical files on the server.

I am stumped.

Help?

FP will manage the process, but you must have web / site open in FP, then import the file into the
current open FP web / site, then link to it, then use FP to publish the site to the live/remote
server.

Get the Windows Media Player 6.4 Series Add-in and install it

http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/downloads/addin/searchdetail.asp?a=50

7. User Instructions

Open a Web in FrontPage. Embed the Windows Media Player by selecting
"Insert / Windows Media Player". At this point the Windows Media Player
Add-In Wizard is opened:

1) Select Audio or Video content.

2) Browse for the content you wish to embed. You may add multiple audio and
video files and use the wizard to determine what order you want them to play
in.

3) Select the controls you wish to appear in the Web page (no controls,
status bar, full controls). These controls will enable the user to start and
stop the playback of the media.

4) Select the playback options, such as the number of times you wish the
media file to play, whether the file should start automatically etc.

5) Hit Finish and the Add-In does the rest behind the scenes. You can now
preview the embedded Windows Media content in FrontPage.

Working now. Here's the solution, found after SO much trial and error.

Don't put the video files in a media or image folder in Frontpage. When you
want to put one on a page, insert wmp and use the wizard to find the file. It
will create a media folder containing the video. Do this for each video you
want on the page. Double-click on a window if you want to change how the
video opens or the audio.

When you click on the player on your site, it takes a couple of second to
buffer in the video, then it plays just fine.

Many thanks to everyone for their advice and suggestions. I never could have
solved the mystery without your help!

I am glad you figured it out.
I have used the add-in with no problem.
I have the wizard get the file from my documents folder and yes the wizard
will create a media folder containing the video in my FP web.
