For some reason my windows vista firewall seems to turn off by itself.
Recently, I noticed that after several hours or so of engaging the windows
firewall it will be off mysteriously. Maybe it happens after my computer
wakes up from hibernating. In any case, why is the firewall turning off and
how do i keep it on??

Turn of System Restore temporarily, restart the Computer in Safe Mode and
run a scan with your Antivirus and AntiSpyware program if you have those
installed.

I think this is happening because im using windows Live onecare, but i am not
sure. Can anyone confirm this?

Windows Liveone Care does have its own firewall, if you are using a
different one then your
setup is not allowing it.

Yes, One Care has its own firewall and switches off the Windows
firewall.

Hi Matt: I'm having the exact same problem you did with your Windows
firewall "mysteriously" turning off. (I already know not to have more than
one firewall turned on - I've turned off the OneCare firewall) but the
problem still exists. I am running SP1 Vista on an HP PC if that info helps.
I didn't see any solutions posted and wondered if you ever found a fix for
this annoying and worrisome firewall problem. Any help would be very much
appreciated!!! Thanks!

I suspect there are some Games that can turn it off....... and
possibly other Trojans types. Do you guys have any similar
networking setups?

Thanks SO much Joel ~ this is extremely helpful. I just don't understand how
a Trojan got past my Webroot virus/spyware protection. I assume Spybot is
another anti-virus software that must be purchased? I'll check it out; don't
know what "AV Override" is/means... but I've made a note of it. Thanks again
Joel for your time and the excellent information. You're the best! MUCH

Spybot is free but will accept donations. Just make sure to get it from
the official site
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

There are many posers that APPEAR to be Spybot but are actually malware.
