Why won't Searchindexer work?

Does any one have an idea why, when I try to search for files on the
computer, the error message comes up that says the "Searchindexer.exe has
stopped working"?
 
I get this on a daily basis. A computer reboot restarts it for a while then
it ultimately fails.
