Why won't Outlook 2007 work with Hotmail?

Why won't Outlook 2007 work with Hotmail on XP, and why hasn't this issue
been addressed in the Microsoft knowledge base? I've Googled it enough to
know I'm not the only one with the problem. I've yet to find a solution.

Hotmail servers are among the most easily hackable. By removing our ability
to download those emails locally, Microsoft is pushing us towards GMail.

Just sayin'...

what exactly happens when you try and what type of hotmail account do you
have ? (free or paid)

That is actually an Internet Explorer 7 issue and not an Outlook issue. If
you don't have IE7 installed it should also work without that fix.

Don't multipost. Ansered in another newsgroup you posted in.

If I hadn't, we never would have known that this is "actually an Internet
Explorer 7 issue and not an Outlook issue", would we? :-P

And no offense, but I didn't see much in the way of "help" from you in the
"other group". I did see some mocking, though.

MSN doesn't usually allow connection to free mail accounts with Outlook (or
Outlook Express).

That depends -- If your Hotmail account predates the cut-off and has
been used regularly, it will still allow WebDAV access.

Only if that access has been removed. They are constantly upgrading their services to remove legacy account access.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

So I'm not *supposed* to have access to this feature (downloading Hotmail
emails to Outlook)?

It was the only thing keeping me loyal to my Hotmail address. Now that
they're cutting all of us off, we might as well be switching to GMail. :-(

Not unless you pay for it.

Don't be surprised when Google starts charging, either. Why would you
expect any company in business to make a profit would be willing to give
aways services?

The fact that Hotmail exists at all shows that there are business models
which do allow you to give things away free.
