why won't assigned tasks auto update?

When I assign a task to someone in Outlook 2000 I do receive update reports
but it does not update the info in my task list. I keep being told to put my
name in the list of people who have kept copies of this task but there is
never a name there and it won't let me add my name either before or after
sending the task.

I'm currently having this same problem in Outlook 2003 SP1. Can anyone offer
some help? I've checked the options to keep an updated copy of assigned
tasks, we are using Msft Exchange server. I read in Outlook help that
Outlook periodically scans your Inbox for status reports, then updates the
task and deletes the status report...sounds great, but haven't seen it work
yet.

OK, so I discovered at least one reason why assigned tasks won't update
automatically...the auto update does not work if the task is Recurring. Only
non-recurring tasks update automatically. Apparently, this has been an issue
since Outlook 97. I hope this can be changed.

Thanks Brian. That answers my question because all my tasks are recurring.

If anyone from Microsoft is reading this....

Why haven't you fixed this? What is the point in giving us a feature that
only works part time? That is just lame. It would be like designing a car
that can only turn left.
