I had computer with win98. When I was installing winXP, it deletes all
files on "windows" directory, but left empty directories. Why do so? Win98
when installing didn't do that nonsense. I lost all my desktop files
(documents). Only empty directories left. Can I rool it back? Help me if you
can...
And the reason you didn't back up all files you wished to save was why?
Any time you install, reinstall, or do any kind of recovery, you should
always back up those personal files just to be safe. Even if the
instructions say they won't be disturbed, back them up anyway, especially if
they are important or sensitive. You didn't just install some new software,
you install a new operating system. For me a red flag would go up saying
"this could wipe my drive - I'd better back things up."
