Why use Telnet if it is unsafe to use?

Why use hyperterminal if it is unsafe to connect to other computers, and to
use the commands one would have had to start using computer before Graphical
User Friendly became the norm. I am asking this question to try to understand
AND learn what I may not be aware of. Maybe telnet is much more useful than I
think?
