Why USB search path direct to winnt/inf while I forced to other directory

I tried to install USB driver such as Pentax digital
camera but it the search always point to winnt/inf/usb.inf
file?

Even I specifically browsed to that directory ?
It happen to my SONY VIAO and DELL as well.
Please share some experience, thanks.

The OEM (i.e., Sony or Dell) might have already installed the USB drivers
and system files for the computer and the Windows Registry is pointing to that
particular location. This particular *.inf file may have to be the one to use for
installing any additional drivers, esp. if a similar *.inf file is not found at the
another location. What happens if the hardware install was allowed to continue
without your intervention?
