Why some html shows, and others don't

I have a laptop with xp2, and a desktop with xp2, yet the laptop shows
everything on web pages (like all the avatars(?) or little pics beside the
mail, groups, etc.) and the desktop with the same settings don't show most
of these.
Any one know why, or where I can look up info on this?

Check your security and popup settings in IE and/or any popup blocking
app you may have installed.

Tried all that, and nothing.
I've even set up the laptop right beside the desktop, went to yahoo.com main
page, and compared everything:
right clicked on mail icon, properties.
toolbar: tools>options, and everything there, etc.
really puzzling, and seems to me I've seen another post with a similar
problem: laptop shows things, but destktop doesnt.
I use Firefox, but I get the same results with IE6.
