Why so many "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem...?

It happens so often now and mainly when I am closing down windows

pages (with the X close button). It happens when online and offline.

We have Win XP. The error page that comes on does crash the

system, but the taskbar gets screwed up and loses icons. If it

happens a second time, my system locks up cold. Thanks.D

Check your system for "hijackware":

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

We have the newest and updated Norton and regularly use and
update both Adaware and Spybot. This happens almost entirely
when closing window screens. Then the quicklaunch is all screwed
up. It used to change my clock from 24 hour to 12 hour, so I
removed the atom clock... but still has problems. Thanks.
