Why read Inbox mail dissappears(not deleted) upon leaving Inbox

Recent change in Inbox behavior - only unread mail stays in Inbox. Once email
is read and Inbox left (by opening sent or deleted folder for example), then
read email dissappears. Can't find it anywhere. Not in archives. Not in
deleted folder.

I do not want the read emails to dissappear. I prefer to delete them
manually. that way they go into the deleted folder, where they are later
archived.

Check your view settings and make sure that there is no filter applied.
