Hi MS MVP & PC Enthusiasts,
I need your help to trouble shoot a neighbor PC running Win98SE. Everything is working OK except for 1 thing --- no auto shut off. The monitor screen message always says: "It's now safe to turn off your computer" and I've to manually shut it down.

I've checked the PC System Info and only 1 (!) Exclamation mark on Advance Power Management Support. It also say: "This device has a problem: Code = 10 (0XA)." I did tried loading for a new driver from Win98SE Installation CD but the PC always says already loaded with the best driver and I even Removed it (APMS) from the system.

Your help is Most Valuable Present to us.

Rino

Auto shut off is a function of the system BIOS and not
necessarily Windows. Because every BIOS is different
it's hard to say how you'll get into that menu. It's
usually during startup and in most cases you press f1 or
esc or delete or sometimes a combination of keys.
Sometimes your motherboard will tell you what keys to
press (Just look carefully at the text when your system
first switches on). If you can find out how to get in
there, there is usually a menu item concerning your power
options and somewhere in there you can set how windows
should shut down.
