Why no sound?

I am using microsoft 2003 in window vista, but somehow in the Sound I can't
record my own sound. ANyone have any suggestion? I need to record a music for
one of my presentation... Thanks.

Gosh there could be a lot of reasons why this isn't working.

Can you give some more info:

- Is this music that you will be playing or singing, and you need to record
it with a microphone?
- Or is this an external music file you need to import to the presentation?
If so, is it MP3, WAV or what?
- Are you using a laptop or desktop PC?
- If you have a desktop PC, are you familiar with the sound configuration
utility that selects the mike and speaker configuration (ie. 2-speaker, 5.1,
etc.)?
- What are you using to record? Is it something like Windows Sound
Recorder, or another sound recording package? Are you using Powerpoint
itself for the recording?
- Are you able to record microphone sounds with Sound Recorder?

Sorry to bombard you with questions :-)

Hi Spudmachine, Geez lot of question but sure here it is
1. no the music will be record from a site ( i did it once for my
presentation in school and it was on my old computer ( running window XP ,
powerpoint 2003)) Now I just bought this new computer running vista and i
just download presentation 2003 but the record option is gray out ( like you
can't click on it)
2. It will be from a website
3.Desktop Pc ( Dell)
4. Sound Configuration ( I am not really familiar as it is like premade,
everything install for me and all I did was plug in the speaker and listen.
5. I plan to use the record option right in powerpoint. ( Insert-movie and
sound-recording sound)
6. Nope I don't am not really into microphone in a way, about sound recorder
I don't know what that is because I rarely do this stuff, just once a while
and now I ran into problems.

Hi Kyo,

So you have the music file already?

Is this an MP3 or WAV?

You should be able to insert the sound as you described...Insert/Sound/From
File

If you accept the option it should play automatically, but you can then
apply Animation settings for more control.

So just to recap on your problem. Have you inserted an audio file and it
doesn't play?

Does it play externally (ie. if you double click on the file in Windows
Explorer)?

Hi Kyo,

If you have inserted the sound file, I have another couple of tips:

- If the file is external to the PPT, make sure the PPT and sound files are
in the same folder. Note, if they're not and you change the locations of
the files, you'll need to re-insert the sound file.

- Try moving the PPT and sound files to a folder that's in the root of your
C drive. For example: "C:\soundtest". If this cures the problem then it
was caused by having too long a path length in the directory name.
