Why no sound after I formatted my hard drive.

Just today I formated my hard drive to get rid of some errors and virus problems. I am still using the same OS (XP) and the same hardware, why can't I get any sound out of speakers. The speakers are functioning properly and the volume controls are OK, am I forgetting to enable some other device? Help me out--I've noticed some other people in this forum are having similar problems, If I figure out my problem I'll let ya know what I did. Thanks

Ha ha! I fixed it. Sometimes I surprise myself with my own inabilities to do simple things. After you install the sound blaster live (if this is the card you have) software, go to the control panel, select sound and audio devices, click the audio tab, under the default drop-down menu select the SB live option. I hope this helps, it worked to solve my problem--or so it seems.
