Does anyone know why microsoft will not put a search
function on these newsgroups?

It would be a whole lot easier to search either in subject
or text of message for an answer to a topic rather than
scrolling through page after page of random questions,
would it not? Perhaps someone from microsoft would like
to answer this one.

Also, I have noticed that if you try to move to the back
of one of these newsgroups, i.e. page 597 of alleged 598
pages of questions, you get blanks. I do find the
newsgroups very useful, just cumbersome to use.

I read newsgroups with X-news - an NNTP client. It has an "X-Pat" search
function which will search every article still on whatever server you
use. Also, you can always search Google Groups.

If you want full Usenet functionality, you'll need to use a news
reader. The web interface pretty useless.

What tool are you using to browse the newsgroups? Outlook/Outlook Express
has a search function on the edit menu.
