Hi.
I bought a seagate Seagate 160GB (3160021A ) IDE internal harddisk.
Before I even format, my partition magic 8.0 and the windows XP disk
management tool report that the disc is 131GB. That is a whooping
~30GB different than the specs! I can understand if you format or
sometimes even before format, the disc size would be lesser than the
specs. But a 30GB!? I cannot get it. I'm thinking about returning the
disc for a refund. But I need to know if this is the case for other
users. Please advise. Thank you.

Before you attempt to use the drive, make sure that you have 48-bit LBA
enabled.

Sounds like your motherboard has a bios limit of 137GBs, for harddrives.
Check the motherboard's manufacturer website for the latest bios update.
Or get a harddrive that comes with it's own IDE/ATA controller card.

If it is an OEM drive, they will probably charge a 20% "dumb user" restocking
fee. Or they may offer to exchange it for a 120GB drive, which your system
supports.
