Why doesn't my computer save its settings after I have
log off or restart my computer? I use to have my
customized desktop, my links, my programs in the
desktop... and all of a sudden, yesterday, everything was
gone. However, none of my files was gone. Is this a
hardware problem? Help

Run the edit on line 30 left side "windows xp doesn't save user settings"

It may be that your lithium battery has gone dead. If
you open the side of your tower look at the mother
board. You will see what looks like a big watch
battery. That is what gives your computer power when it
is shut off. If you loose that power then your computer
can't save it's settings. You can usually get a new
battery at Walmart or some place like that. Just take it
with you and go to the watch department.

The battery saves the BIOS settings, it has no affect on
Windows settings. Even if the battery were dead, the
Windows settings would stay the same.
