When I close Outlook, the program remains in memory. When I open it again later, a new copy of the program loads. I have on occasion run out of memory with several copies of Outlook in RAM. Is there a setting that will allow memory to free when closing Outlook?

Outlook probably doesn't close because of some add-in doesn't free the
process. Add-ins that could cause this are from your spamfilter or
virusscanner. Make sure that those programs are up to date. To see what
add-ins you curretly have installed go to Tools-> Options-> tab Other->
button Advanced E-mail Options...
