Does anyone know why Microsoft wouldn't allow me to view my "msn" on Windows
Mail? They're the same company!

Now I have an icon of Windows Mail on my Vista that I can't even use!

I can't believe this is actualy the first time I became frustrated with
Microsoft. I think I was the last fanboy :o(

Have a look at the following article:

(926374) You cannot configure Windows Mail
to use a Web-based e-mail account in Windows
Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926374/en-us

If you happen to have Outlook you can use it.

Hotmail Free account does not work on Outlook2000\xp\2003\2007 unless it is a Paid Subscription account from Hotmail. This also applies to Outlook Express.

I've been trying hard to get a straight answer on whether I can use my
Outlook 2003 on a Vista system to send/receive email on my free
Hotmail account. Some say Yes, some say No. What a world.

If it's an older Hotmail account that was
working with Outlook Express on Win XP...
it should work in Outlook. I have several
Hotmail accounts that do work.

Hey Peter...

I have several of the old Hotmail accounts
and they do work in Outlook on Vista. And
they still work in OE on WIN XP...I use them
everyday.

Download Windows Live Mail desktop (WLMd) which is the next iteration of
Microsoft's free email client. WLMd can access Hotmail and MSN HTTP
accounts with one caveat. If you are using a free account WLMd will
display ads, if you have a paid Hotmail or MSN account WLMd is ad free.

WLMd Beta is available here:

Kevin,

Are you saying that WLMd is equivalent to an Outlook Express client (with
ads) and that it can be used as a default client (desktop application) to
access an older, free HTTP Hotmail account??? This is exactly what I've
been looking for on my Vista system. Am I missing anything? Please advise.

Those accounts are the old Hotmail accounts. I have it working also. I am not sure but Hotmail accounts dating after 2001 will not work only if they are paid accounts. Winston knows the year exactly when Hotmail accounts were removed from OE and OL unless they were paid accounts

WLMD will get free Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and all POP3 and IMAP mail. Some
people don't mind the ads or the missing features.
