Hello,

I have 40 GB maxtor hard drive and have determinate that I
can't install win2000 Professional. The problem is, that
formating fails with message: hard disk is probably
damaged (or similar). If I use format utility of maxtor
(maxblast3) I can create new partiton and format it. Then
I can install win2000.
The problem is if I created two or more partition using
maxblast win2000 installation fails after first restart
with message hard error, and after one more restatrt it
shows always blue screen with INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.
I've searched microsoft knowledgebase and don't found
something about shuch problem.

Second Question is what does maxblast do else as e.g.
fdisk (or partiton magick) and why with two partitons
installation does not function?

After w2k install within one partiotion and after creating
seccond partition (with disk manager tool) and after new
boot computer hangs up with message
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Using Recoveryconsole and
chkdsk /r reports disk errors and non rapairable
misstakes. So data is loss. Any ideas?

.
This is a 2 edged sword. Windows doesnt like maxblaster
for partitioning software. You have to go back and use
maxblaster to remove it from the drive. Then start win2k
install and from there pick the size you want for
partition. But you have to make sure to remove maxblaster
before you can do anything.
