Why is working in Frontpage so slow now that I added my cable modem?

Ever since I added a cable modem and firewall software, my
Frontpage program has become very slow. I'm not talking
about publishing my web site - I'm just talking about
opening the web site in Frontpage and making changes to
the pages. I also noticed that my personal web server
icon at the bottom of my screen has changed.

No, just Frontpage. I don't even hear my processor when
Frontpage is putting me on hold.

Windows 98, Frontpage 98 and Norton Personal Firewall
2003. The only program that is new is the Norton Personal
Firewall (and my cable modem software).

Thanks, but no such luck. I've been using the Norton
Antivirus for years and never had a problem with Frontpage
interfering with it. It's almost as if Frontpage is
connecting with my cable modem or something.

Then make sure the firewall portion
is set to allow Internet Access to FrontPage.
It's "not" a FrontPage problem, but a firewall problem.

From personal experience...keep FrontPage and dump Norton. That 200 to 300
meg monster that is their personal firewall makes a mess of a lot of things.
Try totally uninstalling it (Norton) if you can and see if that makes a
difference. The fact that you said you have been using FrontPage for years
without any problems until recently is probably pointing you towards it
being Norton. Norton totally hosed IIS on my machine..and my guess is that
it is doing the same to your PWS as well.

Frontpage can't connect with your cable modem, it doesn't even know it's there, nor does it need to know. Indulge us all and
uninstall the Norton bloatware from your system and reboot and see what happens.
