Why is this happening

I'm working on someone's computer, and every time that they start their
computer, an explorer windows opens for C:\Windows\System32 and is left
on the desktop when startup is complete.

This is no big deal, but I can't find out why it's happening. It's
Windows XP home. The Startup folder is empty, and the option to reopen
windows as they were when the system was shut down is turned OFF.

I can't find anything in MSCONFIG or System Information that looks like
the obvious culprit.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? It's not critical,
but it's driving me nuts not being able to resolve it.

Try changing the Folder Options view to not show system folders. It's weird but I've seen this make a difference.
