Why is text missing from Outlook email?

The text from the body of emails (strangely not all) is missing. The text is
on the ISP's server but vanishes on download. Has anybody any clues on this
one? Thanks.

Are you using an add-in that checks incoming e-mail before Outlook gets it,
like a virusscanner or an anti-spam filter? These add-ins could have caused
the issue.
Please let me know your version of Outlook and whether or not you're using
POP3 or Exchange or IMAP. The information would help.

I've heard of it happening when there are add-ins to Outlook in use, like
anti-spam or -virus scanners that scan incoming mail.

Mary,
You are correct (and yes the settings are there in 2003!). When I
change the encoding to Western European (Windows) the messages become
visible. Do you know how to set this as the default for reading messages?
Many thanks.

I am having the same issue--sometimes when others reply to a message I have
sent, it comes back blank (just a copy of the original message I sent).
However, on my POP3 server, the reply text is there. Any suggestions? I
tried changing the Mail Format, International Options, Encoding Options to
Western European (Windows) from Western European (ISO) as suggested in this
thread, without success. Any other advice? I do use Norton Internet
Security as well.

Thanks for any help!

I have exactly the same issue but Mary's solution worked for me only when
Outlook was set to receive text messages. In the html setting some of the
messages were still invisible irrespective of any encoding change.

I continually have problems with some of my emails turning up blank. They are
from individuals and subscribed email listings. The text part shows up in my
webmail, but will be blank when I download it to my Outlook XP. I have
changed my settings in my firewall and my virus protection to what I think is
correct, basically telling it to let me make the decision to block emails. I
have restarted my computer after changing the settings. I still am receiving
blank emails, and don't know what else to do.

I had the same problem. Turns out it was my theme selection. Dark
background and white text. Once I switched to "no theme" and restarted
Outlook, there was the text for my incoming mail! This is done in the
"compose mail" window: Format > theme... > (no theme)

Or, try these steps: Tools > Options... > Mail Format > Fonts... > when
composing and reading plain text > (this was set to white font)

Hope this helps. I was forwarding my email to another account so I could
read it, so I knew it was something in Outllook.

We are having the same problems here - encoding does not help, nor mail
format. Should I assume it is Norton Anti spam or anti virus? How do I reduce
interference from Norton while still maintaining protection?
Would greatly appreciate advice.

Thanks!

So does anyone really have a solution for part of the text in emails
missing?? I'm narrowing it down to how Outlook retrieves mail because when I
use my Eudora mail client to retrieve the same piece of email all the text
are there but not Outlook.

I have the same problem. Can't read any reseived emails exept download for
internet. What I write in new email is gone whwn I'm sending them. Going out
blank.
Any who knows what to do? :-)

I have the same problem, with one exception. I have a signature in
Outlook. When I open the email to send out, part of the email is in a
white font. I correct it before it goes out. When I get a reply back
on my email and start to reply back to the individual it turns white
again when I hit enter. I have tried some of the suggests -- one did
work for a short time.

I am having the same problem. When I use the 'send to email' command in
Word, (to add an attachment to an email) when it sends this email, Outlook
strips the body off the email, and just sends the attachment.
I hope we can find a solution to this serious issue soon.

Can you explain how to accomplish shutting down VG email scanning? I am
having this difficulty with only a few replies to my emails & if I try to
"reply" to the "blank" emails, nothing shows up when I type; however, if I
print the email, all fo the text appears. I would liketo respolve this issue.

Look at the AVG helpfiles or ask in the AVG forums

It's best to uninstall AVG and reinstall it with a custom install, unchecking
the mail scanning features before finishing the installation wizard.
