why is Norton Systemworks not liked here?

I read over and over here where many don't favor this program at all,
despise it by some. as a somewhat literate PC enthusiast I have always
used it on my home system and I guess liked it but I understand it
probably does try very hard to invade my system more than I would
prefer, especially if I really knew. I really like a few of the
utilities that I use a lot and never let the all encompassing system
monitor do anything but it would be tough to give up things like
Speeddisk, WinDoctor (use to like CleanSweep until Norton castrated it),
and enhanced Recycle Bin (UnErase), Antivirus of course, and definitely
Ghost, which just saved me this weekend as it was the only option (disk
to disk copy) that would let me upgrade to a new HD and transfer the
system over with no problems as Maxtor's setup program really screwed
things up with its disk overlay crap and led to a very aggravating
weekend until I woodshed my way through Ghost!

so what would be a more suitable replacement for these options and I
know I can buy Ghost and AntiVirus separately? but, for the money, a OEM
purchase of SystemWorks Premier seems hard to beat. but, I have taken
notice to all the bashing and as I am getting ready to set up as what I
perceive be a need for a cleaner system for PC recording I am curious
about this issue of invasiveness and the alternatives.

Many different people, many different reasons

I used to use NAV and their utilities, in fact I still use thei
utilities on occasion, and Ghost has saved my butt a time or two.
But the simple, lean Norton of the 90's has become much more bloate
(like many other programs as well). Some of these "features" tha
bloat the software steal bits of system memory for themselves an
when combined with other programs competing for your cpu's time, ca
slow down even the most modern machine. Sure some of the program
are necessary, but I don't want ALL the features turned on.

Norton has it's problems, and so does some other programs out there.
Maybe, some of the animosity toward Norton is due to it's Big Brothe
stature as well. A lot of us root for the underdog; just look at ho
some of us look at Microsoft in a similar way. Is Norton a
bullheaded/pushy as Microsoft?

Just my 2 cents..

True Image is much better for that.

Yeah, its always been excellent value, particularly
with an older version bought off ebay.

I no longer bother anymore, basically because I dont use
NAV, I prefer AVG, and I dont like Ghost 9 and 10 at all,
basically because it cant create an image from the booted
CD and the clone op is completely ****ed, basically
because you cant do it from a booted CD either.
Ghost 2003 is much too crude with NICs.

I did use the older stuff a bit, but havent for years and years now
with the exception of DiskEdit which I do like the user interface.

I've never installed it on anything that matters for that reason.

I've basically just installed it on the test system so I can
manually extract what I want like diskedit ocassionally.
and the alternatives.

I basically use dedicated alternatives for what functionality I want.
I use AVG Free for antivirus and a hardward firewall, MS antispy
for antispy, True Image for imaging and backup, havent bothered
to defrag in years, literally, never bothered with WinDoctor or
CleanSweep, dont let systems get bad enough to use them.

In some ways an enhanced recycle bin would be handy, but
the one in SystemWorks has too much of a capacity to bite
you on the arse to bother with and the only system I do much
deleting on is the PVR which at 2-3G per hour per channel
burns up drive space like there is no tomorrow. I would like
to be able to undelete on that system, because its currently
too easy to delete a file by accident on that system, but
since I'm deleting files on that system to get space for new
recordings, the systemworks undelete system is no use anyway.
