Why is NO ONE answering these questions concerning remote access to folders??

This is the fourth try at this, and I have seen two others asking the same
question, so it must not be a rare occurance:

I have windows server (w2k3) setup and running fine, with access controlled
to the Share Point main site. My thought was to build a link on the home
page to the USER SHARED FOLDERS in order to allow access to them from the
outside when logging into the internal sight. This is not working
externally, though internally it works fine.

The reason for this is staff need access to the files in their shared
folders, but do not need to use a VPN connection to get to the actual
desktop system. Is there a way to link them into their shared folders only?

Any ideas are welcomed.

I did post there with the same result.
