Since I installed Windows XP SP2 on my system,it has always been extremely
slow in booting and every other thing even though my system spec is high
enough (with Pentium m 1.73ghz and 1GB RAM) and I am positive I dont have
many programmes running on my system cause I have removed them because of
this problem.
Somebody please advise me what to do!!!!

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Do you leave your computer on 24/7?

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

Any memory optimisers installed?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Besides Gerry's good advice, many performance problems these days are
caused by malware infection. What security software do you run, and is
it kept up to date?

Hey Gerry thanks for the response but I dont see where I would be able to
post all that you asked on this forum. And I suppose you want to use these
docs to be able to perform a surgical check on what may be wrong with my
system.A friend of mine also suggested that I back up all my files and
unistall my present windows xp and install a totally new one.Cos he thinks
this my own has been corrupted somehow. What do you think?
Thanks also John and Ken Blake for responding. And what do you guys also
think about what I just wrote.

" I dont see where I would be able to post all that you asked on this
forum. "

You would find it easier using a proper news reader but try posting what
you can. Work through the list. An expression comes to mind "faint heart
does not win fair lady"! Your friends suggestion of a clean install is
only to be tried if all else fails.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
