If I try to print a document from my notebook, the application seems
to hang and the task manager displays "task not responding". In
desperation I started a packet sniffer and found that the notebook is
trying to connect not only to the office print server, but also to my
home printer, as if it is trying to connect to all configured
printers, rather than simply the default printer. Since my home
printer is on a completely different network and therefore
unreachable, the application hangs for a couple of minutes. Strangely,
this only happens with Adobe Acrobat and also notepad. Printing from
MS Word is still OK and works as expected.
My question is, why is the notebook trying to access my home printer?
My office printer is set as the default. Everything was working
perfectly until a few weeks ago. I have no idea what's different
(maybe it was the installation of W2K SP4? Maybe it was the
installation of another software program which has destroyed one of
the dll's somewhere?)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Yes I have tried re-installing adobe acrobat but this didn't make a
difference (not really a surprise since the problem affects notepad
too. Still, it was worth trying...)
