Why is my monitor blinking?

My monitor started blinking out randomly, almost like a resolution change
but without the accompaning clink. I changed video cards and it still
blinks. WTF?

It doesn't do it while playing full screen games (e.g. Call of Duty).
Anyone have an idea what could cause this?

Mine (a 17" Phillips) has been doing this very same thing, maybe once
a week. I expect it to burn out anytime now, but I've been saying
that for the last 6 months. I have another that blinks when it is on
for several hours at any given time, and that one (Compaq) has been
doing that for about a year.

Mine started after upgrading the hard drive, but I've changed the drive
and it still blinks. I had a Viewsonic that started blinking and I never
did figure it out.

man you rookies don't you know its Monitor mating season? That's
just a typical mating ritual...

My Philips did that too (107B I think the model was), I ignored it after
swapping various bits and finding no cure. After three months of 'blinking'
it finally stopped working completely. Just before it died it was blinking
once every hour.

You wouldn't have a NVidia card would you? I've noticed mine does this
too and it seems to be related to the NVidia Windows software. It's
only rarely it does this so I'm not too bothered.

Awesome, maybe the baby will grow up to be a 19"+ LCD.

Yes. The first time it happened I had a Geforce 3 (years ago, different
computer), now it started with my Geforce 4, now I have upgraded to a
GeforceFX card and it was blinking still.

This morning I installed XP SP2 and I haven't noticed it blinking 'yet'.

I saw someone post this problem in another group but no one answered.

It's been happening to me ever since I put in a 6800 GT to replace a 9700
Pro. Damn irritating. Every time I right click the nvidia display icon or
delete a large file. I thought it might be power and upgraded my PS to no
avail. I read it's a driver issue, but I have no choice as to what drivers
I can use with the 6800. Oh well, it's only a $400 card right?

you may end up with a LCD enclosure with a CRT, this would result in a
weight distribute problem and the monitor may keep falling on its
face, This has been a wide spread problem in and around Chernobyl.

I also noticed the problem when I right click to delete a large file. I
tried replacing the power supply on the last machine that had this problem
and it didn't help. It isn't the card itself causing the problem either,
it must be a driver. I'm going to roll back my drivers and see if the
problem goes away.

Yep, same here. I wish I could roll back but the 61.xx series are the only
ones I can use.

why else? it's dying

My old monitor blinked for a year, then I sold it to someone else who
hasn't had any blinking at all. I'm not convinced that the blinking that
I'm experiencing is the same 'blink' that some people see before their
monitor expires. This is more like it's trying to change resolution.

adobe gamma control?
you have set a user setting in the OSD of the monitor
and a different setting on the adapter.

I turned Adobe Gamma control off, we'll see if it makes a difference.
