Why is it?

Why is it that Adaware almost always has new updates but when I check for
updates on Spybot S & D, it always tells me I am running the current
version. Also, it seems, in my opinion, that Adaware picks up more spyware
than Spybot S & D. Is this because it's not updating? Am I doing something
wrong? The other day I decided to run Spybot first and then run my Adaware.
Spybot came back with "congratulations...your system was clean" yet adaware
picked up 18 critical objects. Should I "remove" Spybot S & D and then
re-install it??

Thanx,

Patty

I would keep both. If you were to run adaware first and then spybot you
would also find items not picked up by adaware.
I have not seen any spybot updates recently myself.

Patty, you might want to check out one of steve gibson's privacy/security
groups, especially grc.security.software lots of good dialogue.

Make sure you're using the *latest* versions - AdAware SE 1.05 and Spybot
S&D 1.3. You can download & install them & they should uninstall the older
versions. Launch, update, scan - rinse, lather, repeat.
Each will usually catch stuff the other doesn't.

No, you don't need to do anything. No anti-spyware program
catches all the spyware that's out there.
Each catches things the others don't. For that reason, there is
no best product, and it's wise to use several. Personally, I use
Spyware Blaster, Ad-aware, and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Tried it - makes no difference. :-(

Spybot S&D newset version is 1.3 which I use and it seems to be updated on a
regular basis Version 1.2 is no longer supported.
Spybot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

This happened to me with Spybot S&D.
I couldn't figure out why it never had new patterns.
I had version 1.2. After downl;oading and installing v1.3 the update worked
and it had 15K patterns vs. 9K.
And more options worked.

Another note (a personal disappointmet because I like the software.)
Spyware Stopper from SPYBLOCKER and their other 3 products are being offered
at reduced rates bunndles on CD's with Lifetime upgrades. Which is a good
deal except the version are older than the trail version and that is one
release behind the newest release.
So the CDS would be outdated.
So a bargin if you don't mind updating twice otherwise wait for the
inventory selloff and the SPYBLOCKER owners get their act together.
*whin, whin*

So I got ADware SE Pro but is not as informative.

How long before these startups merge?
Symatec must be runing the numbers as I speak. :)

Sorry but

No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop
most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the
jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political
organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be
permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing
business relationship, or those to whom you've provided express
agreement in writing to receive their calls.

Q: I get calls soliciting money for political organizations or for
charities - will the National Do Not Call Registry stop those calls?

A: Political solicitations are not covered by the National Do Not Call
Registry. Telemarketers calling to solicit charitable contributions are not
covered by the registry, but if you make a request to a specific
organization that they not call you, they are required to honor your
request. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine
of up to $11,000.
