Why is fx-51 fasteer than opteron?

Hi, I want to get the fastest desktop that does 64 bits. I thought the
opteron was more advanced, and I might want a dual processor.

Is the fx-51 better? Thanks very much for any guidance.

To what end, what software application do you intend to run?

64 bits will be the future, but for now there are few 64 bit
OS and few applications. By the time there is something to
use 64 bits, the CPUs and mobo will be cheaper, faster and
useful.

The FX-51 is based on the Opteron, just clocked at 2.2Ghz. Same memory
controller, just different cache.

I'm in the process of installing gentoo 1.4 linux on a dual opteron box.
Once completed, I'll have access to some 4000 different applications,
utilitie and games. Why in the world wait?

Gentoo is a Linux _enthusist_ distribution. Let us know in a couple of
weeks after you get it compiled.
