Why is Autofit not working on Placeholder text in PowerPoint 2003.

On a couple of slides that have nothing but title and text, plus a couple of
small Master page items like page number, etc., I cannot get AutoFit to work,
no matter what order in which I invoke it; i.e., through the AutoCorrect
settings or through the pop-up on the Placeholder itself. HELP! Running XP
Pro, all latest updates for Office and Windows, on an HP Compaq nc8000.

Try reapplying the layout. Click on Format, Slide Layout, choose the correct
layout, click on the dropdown arrow, reapply layout.

Is the text too big for the placeholder? That's the only time you'll
actually see the AutoCorrect pop-up. Try resizing the placeholder to a
smaller size and see if the text shinks with it.

If the text in your placeholders are larger than you want, change the
SlideMaster by clicking on View, Slide Master.

There must be something drastically wrong with my file, because all of the
parameters you've mentioned are correct, and yet it still won't work. I'm
stumped.

I FOUND IT! I flashed on the problem this morning while I was waiting for my
train... AutoFit wasn't working because I had static line spacing selected
with POINTS, not LINES. I could keep my line spacing, I just had to switch
the dropdowns to "Lines" (so I was getting fractions of lines, like 1.1 and
..42 space before), and voila -- AutoFit worked like a charm!
