As good an example as any of why I borrow and copy games over buying

Just got home after purchasing Tiger Woods 2007 on DVD.

Go to install. Install says need DirectX 9.0c and stops. DXDIAG states I
have DX9.0c already installed and in fact I can remember doing that some
time ago.

Install DX off game DVD. No sign it did anything but exit.

Try re-install game. Get new error message about a .NET problem. .NET is
installed on system. Beats me why any game needs it. No idea what problem is
nor how to "fix it".

Game then goes on to state problem with Crypotographic Service. And again I
have no idea how to fix it.

At this point I no longer care about game. Company has just taken my money
and there's no recourse as most stores will not give a refund for a game.

I figure it'll take me couple hours figure it all out. I figure CEO of EA
Games makes least $100/hr so EA Games will owe me that much for my time.

I'll just keep copying games and getting the crack to run them.

Sorry can't afford to do otherwise and I do/will not feel like a thief for
doing it.

Ok, whatever you say. But you must feel guilty or else you wouldn't have
even mentioned it.

Of course I feel a little guilty and feel it's not right but it's far more a
wrong that companies can sell products that DO NOT work yet consumer has no
recourse. That said, I do not feel like a thief about it as from my point of
view I'm only protecting myself from the uses and abuses of unbridled
capitalism at it's most obscene.

Yep, I'll agree with that to a degree. You do have recourse if you chose
to fight them in small claims court. If you can prove their software is
broken you would win every time. I know in the UK they have much better
consumer protection than US so I expect there you could return broken
software if you exercised your consumer rights. I have bought many games
I would liked to have returned because they were shit but can't because
of the store policy. I'm too lazy to fight them in court over a $40.00
game too. We need better consumer protections that is for sure.

You are a thief if you copy games. No argument.
You may not feel like one, but you are. Tough.
I bet you couldn't be bothered to go to the game website, check out the
forums, download patches etc.
Just sod off.

Since you can't be bothered to work a LITTLE to get PC games running,
sell the PC and get a game console.

Actually Yes I did try that. Have you checked out EA Games pages lately and
then judge for yourself what they must be like on a rural dialup line at
26,400. On top of that, they DEMAND one register and give them information
BEFORE one can do anything else of consequence. Well sorry if I have
problems with that but until they pass some law that requires companies to
delete any and all info about oneself upon request, instead of companies
feeling it's "their" info to do with as they please, I do not give that out
easily.

BTW - there seems to be no patches.

And - game did actually install on my laptop, but corrupt graphics etc. when
running. Fired it over Ethernet to "game" pc, copied some registry entries
and one "system32\....dll" over, went to megagames for no-dvd crack and game
runs fine on intended system. Go figure, nothing wrong with game itself just
with the idiotic install program.

All that took few hours of my time so yea they owe me is way I see it.

Read reply in other thread but short answer is I'm more than prepared to
screw with it to get it running. Issue is, one shouldn't have to straight
out of box and with no recourse for a refund PERIOD!!!

And until consoles can match a pc screen doing 1280x1024 or better I ain't
interested.
