Why has my EXCEL document turned into gibberish? ex. %ghrigh!+

I have been working on an extensive EXCEL document (I am very new to EXCEL).
I have been adding more and more information to it over the course of 3
months and saving. Today when I went to the document, all the writing has
turned to gibberish. There are lots of symbols and words that don't make
sense. Everything looks like a formula. Where did all my typing go? I
really need to get it back.

My first inking that something was wrong was when I was trying to add a clip
art image to a Word Document from the Microsoft site yesterday. I couldn't
download it. I kept getting a message that was about not having the proper
memory application...or something like that. I don't know if these two
problems are related, but it seems to indicate something is wrong with my
Microsoft Office Program. Will reinstalling bring back my saved document?
