Why double desktops?

One Desktop sits on extreme top, the other under the username in Explorer. If
I right-click the top one, I get to the Personalize dialog box, while for the
latter, I get a different menu. But why have two folders with same name? If I
copy a file in anyone, it appears at both sites. Why is this so? Why have
twin desktops?
Thanks

It's not a duplicate. The "Desktop" shell folder will be listed at the top of the left pane in Windows Explorer. It's a namespace object, pointing to the User's Desktop folder, which is located at:

C:\Users\{name}\Desktop
