I have had Windowsxp for quite a while. I never receive
any patches or updates. Can you tell me why? Did I do
something incorrectly when I registered?

I followed the instructions to enable the Internet
Connection Firewall. Since I've gotten back into the
internet, I've not gotten any msgs that the systems
shutting done from the latest worm. So apparently I've
done gotten the blaster worm stopped.

Just want to make sure before I go to any of the websites
I check periodically. How do I know it's safe to do any of
my usual tasks? I know the phone lines are exceptionally
busy, and after my last wait of 2 hrs, I decided to try
this method.

Thank you for your help and advise.

Sincerely,

Wanda Dudley

Oh, and to get patches, go to Start -> Help and Support
and then click the link: "Keep your computer up-to-date
with Windows Update", it will scan for new updates and
download them and then install them. You may also want to
configure Automatic Updates so you wouldn't have to do it
manually like above. To do that go to Control Panel and
then System, click the Automatic Updates tab and choose
your options.

(If you still got the virus, Windows Update and maybe
other Windows services will not work...)

Updates and Patches are available in "windowsupdate.microsoft.com", and you
need to check it by yourself periodically (or set your windows update
configuration in the System Properties).
