Why doesn't Vista update show info on the update?

On XP update I can get detailed info about the update but Vista update just
lists the update with no further info. Why is that? I want to know what the
update fixes and not be treated like I don't need to know.

Have you tried looking in the update history and right clicking an entry
?

If you are talking about NEW updates that aren't installed yet, you
get all the info you got before, but not if you have your system
configured to download and install automatically.

Have it set to only notify you when updates are available. Then you
will be able to see what is being offered and choose what you wish to
do.

So have you tried right-clicking on the offered update and selecting "View
details"?

I have my updates set to download and inform me. But like Jim, I couldn't
open the files yesterday to see what they contained. So I don't think you are
correct.

Right-click on the offered update and choose "View Details"

I have my system set to NOT download, but to inform me.

I am correct. I can view any potential update before accepting it.

I second that - works OK here....

Oops, just right clicked the actual updates and you can get detailed info
that way too. Still Microsoft's fault for not sending me the memo that they
have changed how you get patch details. On XP you just click + to the left
of the patch name to get more info. That is more obvious than assuming we
know we are supposed to right click the name of the patch.

I never allow auto-updates. I just didn't know that you have to now right-
click the patch name to get detailed info instead of clicking on the + like
in XP.

I don't even allow it to inform me. I don't like being annoyed by notices
when I am in the middle of something. Ever have your AV autoupdate and
windows run autoupdfate at the same time, it's very annoying. I know when
to check for updates most of the time. 2nd Tuesday of every month.

I have now. ;) Is it myt fault for expectiong the detailed info to be
displayed the same way it is in XP? Did Microsoft send out memos that you
now have to right-click the update to get detailed info?

Nope - I just right-click everything in sight just to see what comes up...
