Why doesn't AntiSpyware run as a service? Has anyone tried creating a
service for AntiSpyware? It seems tragic that you can't have scheduled
scans unless someone is logged int. Am I missing something?

Because Giant didn't code their product to run as a service, and
Microsoft bought Giant, and then Microsoft released the rebranded
product to provide it for free rather than make you wait. You would
rather do without MSAS until sometime next year when it isn't beta
anymore? I'm sure Microsoft could easily do that since they are
obviously not generating any revenue on the Giant-coded product.

I wasn't trying to be critical; I was just trying to figure out how to
enhance the functionality of the product. Does anyone here know how to make
Microsoft AntiSpyware run as a service?

There was a resource kit utility to try to make a given program run as a
service--I can't remember what product's resource kit, nor what the name of
it was, though. I believe there were limitations on what the code did as to
whether this was possible, and I'd be skeptical about whether it would
succeed with the current code.

This article describes the process of creating own services:
