If you have Norton Anti Virus installed and the Office Plug-in option
enabled (under NAV, Options), when you open Word or Excel (or any of the
other Office Applications), it will try to access the Internet to verify the
authenticity of Norton's Verisign Certificate - which went out of date on 7
January.

: I use the personal edition of ZoneAlarm on my home computer,

: The only thing I can tell you is at home, I've set all
: programs to ? or X for server (I've never been asked for
: permission) and most programs are ? for Access Internet.
: So, when Word accesses the internet, it has to ask me for
: permission and I know why it's asking. The reason is that
: I've copied something off of a web page that I'm pasting
: into Word and it needs to access the web to do it.
:
: I have no idea why Excel would need to access the internet.
