I had to clean reinstall WinXP Pro. I have a pair of SATA in RAID 0,
then a large PATA drive that is partitioned into a main partition (for
data storage) ans a 10 GB partition as a Swap partition (F). For some
reason, when winXP boots up, it insist to check F: everytime
regardless whether I shut down correctly or not.

I know I could disable partition checking using CHKNTFS /T:0 command,
but I would like to know what did I do that resulted in this
persistent checking. BTW, all partitions are in NTFS format. Thanks
for any info that you can give.

Checked F: partition and indeed it came back as "dirty". Tried /D and
/C switches to try to "clean" it without success. Anyone has
suggestions?
Maybe you have indexing activated. My drive never rested until I turned
that off.

To disable Indexing service Open my Computer - right click all your hard
drive select Properties. Uncheck "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk
for fast file searching". Select "Apply changes to subfolders and files". If
gives any error. Ignore All and try chkdsk again.

Tried turning off indexing with the way described AND also turned off
indexing service via Control panel---->Add/Remove
programs--->add/remove windows components. Still the same.

I finally gave up and used chkntfs /x f: to turn it off for once and
for all.

Thank you all for responding and helping.
