I should have said every time I do a search after I open Explorer.
Sorry.

Every time I open Windows Explorer, it wants to access the internet.
Why?

Thanks

That section "How Search Companion Communicates with Sites on the Internet" in that document is not specific to SP2. The Search Assistant connects to sa.windows.com to keep the Search feature up to date, tips, etc on the WindowsXP machine. You can stop it from connecting by reverting to the Classic Search.

Here is more information, from Doug Knox:

But I am using SP1 because I fear installing SP2.

???

You are a very very wise person.

Burnt Fingers

You better believe it. I did have SP2 installed whereupon I lost my
NAV2003's ability to do live updates, leaving me vulnerable.

So I finally bit the bullet and started over, stopping at SP1. Right
now all is just fine and I want it to stay that way.

Re SP2 vs. SP1.

I have read all these dire warnings about SP2, but I found no problem after
installing SP2.

Are the problems something to do with some specialised software that others
are using and I am not?

Can people tell me where the problems arise ?

TYIA (Thank you in advance)

================
You have spyware!
go to Downloads.com
and download AdAware Personal the latest FREE spyware
removaltool and make sure to update its signatures
and run it and then delete all the spyware.
spyware does that too; its little servlets are defaulted for
many access ways to serve their little message to thier commrads
so they write code to handle DSL, Broadband, and modem
and it is spyware.

Certain programs do have problems with sp2 and usually they are
corportate programs etc. The normal home user and there programs things
work fine. Mircrosoft had a list of programs on their site at the time
that didn't get along to well at that time..... I am sure things have
changed since then
