Why does Vista limited the number of uses of software I install?

I have Microsoft Publisher 2003 and use it for making my marketing material
for my business but after installing it on this laptop I get a message each
time I use it informing me that I have a certain number of uses left of that
program. Why am I limited to a certain number of time I'm able to use that
program on this laptop?

I've also tried to install my Microsoft Suite which includes Power Point and
several other programs, which I can't remember at this time but I can't get
them to install. I think I had gotten some sort of error message telling me I
had those limited files on here. The only ones on here are trial versions,
which I have never used because I don't want to have to buy them again.

What can I do? What other information do you need, if any?

Hi,

It has nothing to do with Vista. Publisher must be activated with a product
key to have unlimited usage. The trial versions have a limited number of
usages, and once surpassed the program can no longer be used until the key
has been purchased. To install the Suite, you must first uninstall the trial
versions.

If Publisher is 'counting' down each time you use it then you are either
using a trial version; you haven't inputted the product licence code or you
haven't activated the product. If activation is the problem then you re
usually notified periodically that the product need activating.

I did activate it. I couldn't even start to use it without putting the
required serial number or whatever number it is that's on the CD. That's why
I thought it had something to do with Vista. I guess I'll have to try to
uninstall it and reinstall it again but will that cause me to lose the
documents I've saved to 'my documents' since they were made with Publisher 03?

I will try to activate it again but I did do that when I first installed it.
Thanks.

You documents should be safe, but it is good practice to always make a
backup copy of your documents. Copy the publisher docs to a second hard
drive, maybe a USB drive or even burn them to CD/DVD before doing an
uninstall/Install.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Vista, or any other operating
system.

A all of the Office 2003 applications require Product Activation.
You're granted a set number of uses (50, if I remember correctly),
before you have to activate. All you need to do is simply read the
message that appears, and follow its instructions.

I've also tried to install my Microsoft Suite which includes Power Point and

Well, when you remember what you problem was, repost it in an Odffice
news group (this is a Windows newsgroup, so Office questions are
off-topic), and someone there will probably be able to help you.

I think I had gotten some sort of error message telling me I

Then uninstall them.
What can I do?

First, post your questions in the appropriate newsgroup.

What other information do you need, if any?

The contents of that "super secret" error message would help, once you
post to the correct newsgroup.

I will uninstall it and reinstall it and activate it again, which I did when
I first installed it. Sometimes things just don't work like they should. As
long as I have an idea of what the problem is I'll keep trying until I get it
to work.
Thanks.
