Why does PP not allow me to type quotation marks?

When I type various punctuation marks (like quotation marks) PowerPoint
displays them as a straight line (similiar to a bold l). This is both on the
notes and in the presentation... Thanks

I'm guessing that your AutoCorrect options have gotten messed up. Go to the
Tools menu and choose AutoCorrect. Under the AutoFormat as You Type tab,
change the setting for Replace Straight Quotes with Smart Quotes and see if
that helps.

If that doesn't help, try going under the AutoCorrect tab and seeing if
there is an entry for quotation marks there. If there is, delete it.

Does this happen in all fonts or just one (which)?

Does this happen in other apps or just PowerPoint?

Have you installed a local printer on the computer? Updated the drivers to
current from the website?

What version of PowerPoint? Windows? DirectX? All updated to current?

I created the presentation in one computer and moved it to another. See
below. I think this is where the problem lies.
What version of PowerPoint? Windows? DirectX? All updated to current?
Created in Power Point 2002 (10.263.2625) Windws XP 20002 Service Pack 2
Running in Power Point 2003 (11.5529.5606) Windows XP 2002 Servuce Pack 2
(different computer)

OK, two things to check.

1) Try changing to a different font and see if the problem persists. It is
possible that the font has become corrupt. You may also want to deselect
embed fonts in the presentation (if that option is selected). In PowerPoint
Tools => Options => (tab) Save => Font options for current document only =>
Uncheck (if checked) => OK

2) Try round tripping the presentation thru HTML to remove minor corruption
from the file. See
** HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption
