Why does point32.exe look for a dns server?

The subject tells it all, I checked the kb and there's no entries, I'm
not sure which group I should use, either. It's intellepoint 4.1 (the only
stable one that I can find). Norton had a pop-up telling me this, I told it
not to allow point32 to access the internet. Do I need to worry about
trojans?

point32.exe is a component of Logitech software that looks for updates, I
believe.

Search for the file name and extension on Google. You will learn a lot.

It's part of Microsoft's Intellipoint software, my firewall has not picked
up any recent attempt my by it to connect to the internet.
The driver version reported is 5.20.413.0 and it's stable so I haven't
checked for any recent updates.

Oops! You're right. I was on my 3rd computer today. Get a bit confused with
so many different mouses running around the house. (-:

OK, but I haven't told it it in it's config that ir could phone home to
check, I can't find anything in the registry that looks like it would set an
auto update for the intellepoint driver. Where is it set?
I just had to re-install NIS so I have to re-allow a lot of old programs
Internet access, but I hadn't noticed that point32 called home before, but
it's been over 6 mo since I last had to re-intstall NIS.
BTW, I use a Trackball Optical 1.0 and I notice MS doesn't sell them
anymore, is ther another source for them? Does Canada have them in stock,
since I see they still advertise them? I downloaded the 5.5 version of the
software, but I'm leery since every time I tried to use a newer version than
4.1 I've had spastic pointer problems.

it isn't; it just does it. [older versions; i have 5.4 and it doesn't
seem to do it]

google is your friend, shop around. the TB Optical I can find fairly
easily, the TB Explorer seems to be even rarer. I bought a second one
recently "just in case", I know I'm addicted to this thing, don't want to
go back to a "real" mouse when/if it should die. Once you adjust to the
TB, it's much nicer and easier on the elbo/shoulder; I really like all the
BIG buttons and their programability.
