why does outlook disconnect with incoming email

I am using office 2000 and outlook for my email. when I ask outlook to
receive mail, it disconnects my dialup service and prompts me to reconnect
it. How can i fix this.

What are your mail account types? What are their connection types? What are
your Dial Up settings in Outlook?
