Why does Outlook 2003 send using random email accounts

I'm having a problem where Outlook decides on its own which of the 3
accounts I have set up to send emails from... that's either a new/
reply/forward...

If I don't notice I get some very interesting responses from mail
forums rejecting from the wrong address... etc...

I've had a fairly good dig round www and can't find anything of any
use, in fact there's several other postings on other forums that
haven't been successfully answered :(

I have the latest AVG installed and updated daily, as well as Spybot
S&D that updates every week...

Hoping someone can sort this out for me as it's a real pain !

You have provided no information. State the evidence in clear detail that
Outlook selects the sending account at random. It doesn't and never has so
we'll look forward to having this new information.
Outlook sends new messages from your default account. It sends replies over
the account from which the original message was received.
The account types in your profile matter greatly and you managed to leave
that information out as well.
 
As Russ clearly states, Outlook only uses the default account to send.

I would hazard a guess that you *do* have malware on your PC.

Have you tried a scan from the free MS online scanner?

http://safety.live.com

(you need to disable the popup blocker in IE to run the scan - don't
forget to re-enable it when done).

Do the Full Service Scan.

If you can't run the free online scanner, due to IE problems, then I'd
further suggest your browser may also be 'hijacked'.

Replies and forwards go out on the acct that received the message.
New messages used the default account but the presence of a exchange acct in
the profile may force it to use the exchange acct. Also, some builds of
outlook will try to use other accts if the selected one is not available...
we need more details to know if this might be your problem.

I doubt its malware, unless you consider outlook malware. :) AVG's email
integration could be the problem.

I'll bet not. I suspect that NickTheBatMan has multiple accounts that are
aliases of each other, that all of the accounts are configured in the
Send/Receive Group to receive mail, and that Outlook is downloading the
messages from the mailbox via an account other than one matching the mail
address defined for the account, which is perfectly legitmate for Outlook to
do, since it queries the accounts in parallel. Whichever is the first account
to notice the new message is the one downloading that message.

True, but he has said that it uses random accounts to *send* email
(including random accounts when sending *new* email) - and Outlook
doesn't do that, does it? (There can only be one default).

Further to my reply, perhaps is the AV integration that is causing the
problem. ?

Yes I've 3 aliases of my account (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed) and
(e-mail address removed)
I can only guess that as you suggest it totally depends on which one
of the three happens to be connecting to look at the server...!

Now my problem is, how do I stop all but the default one from polling
the server... I still of course need these accounts to be able to send
out emails... I can't work that one out...

go into send and receive settings and set the other two accts to never check
for new mail.

Oh Diane how simple :) Just not seen that option before, a long way
to go in learning how to use more of Outlook... shall start reading
more from the links you've provided...
