Hi and thanks for looking in......

I have vista home and windows mail is proving quite a problem.
It will ALWAYS disconnect from the internet and then ask for an internet
connection when ever it needs to check for new mail.
If I open it and then click "tools" choose "accounts" highlight my account
and then click "properties" if I then click "connection" winmail freezes and
has to be closed down or restarted........
Any ideas on how to cure this or how to reinstall it with out loosing
contacts and messages will be eagerly recieved.....

Thanks for th eReply Krisral but that only give the actuall connection and
not the account specific connection. I have gone via the route you suggested
and everything looks ok but I need to access connections for the account so
the account can be assigned to the relevent connection.

In that case, you might need to delete/recreate the actual account.

In Tools > Accounts, select the problem account and try to write down all
the settings/info on the Servers tab, including port numbers on the Advanced
tab. Next, close that account window and your account should still be
highlighted. Click on the Remove button. Close Windows Mail.

Restart the computer, open Windows Mail, and recreate the account. You will
have to fix and rules you made that go with that account.

If you have more accounts that also have this problem, repeat each step.

Tools | Accounts
Select the account and click Properties.
On the Connection tab uncheck the option to always use this account

Do this for each mail and news account.

I have managed to sort it..... IT sort of sounds like a logical solution but
then again you would think Microsoft would have it worded a bit better or
even an option to locate actice connection.....

Anyway.... the answer was to check the "Do NOT connect" box.... because I
had already connected, the programme was disconnecting then reconnecting.....
Apparantly winmail doesn't automatically look for an active internet
connection.... It only looks once you tell it not to connect.
So thanks to Andy at my little local PC repair shop... :)
