Hi,
Why does my optical mouse light stay on even when my new Eclipse Matrix
computer is shut down? This is the first time that I have noticed this on
any computer that I have ever owned.

Foxconn P9657AA in a Asus TA250 ATX case.
Cheers

Probably is a USB mouse. Some motherboards keep the USB port powered up when
the computer is shut down.

Yep, it is a USB mouse without batteries. Is there anything that I can do to
help the environment that will stop the power getting to the USB ports
without me having to get under the desk and switch the plug off every day?
Silly question I know, but maybe something in the bios? If not, then there
should be.

The amount of power that goes to your computer when the computer is off
(that also feeds the mouse) is miniscule. Don't worry about it. If you want
to help the environment, there are loads of other ways to do it that may
actually have some effect.

When you shutdown most newer type of computers, they do not completely power
everything down. This is because of the ATX specs (?????) which the
motherboard uses a front mount "stand-by" power switch. If you were to turn
off the power supply switch (usually in the back) then every thing should
power down completely. It might not be easy to access the rear power supply
switch (if one exist.)

One possible solution is to connect the PC/monitor to a surge protected power
bar, which you have placed so that your can reach the on/off switch easily.
Then, when you shutdown the PC, turn this power bar off.

You can also do this with a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) unit. The UPS
batteries will still charge as along as the AC current is available, even
though the unit is off.
