Why does my DVD-ROM reject new discs?

Hi! My 18-month old IDE DVD-ROM 16x drive (Region 2)
accepts some older DVDs and they run fine but not any new
ones - I get the message "No disc in Drive (F:)", even
though they have gone in OK. There's no problem with CD-
ROMs on that drive. It has to be a software thing surely?
Is there some simple default I have to make?
Any help appreciated - Thanks

Your DVD drive may be set to the wrong region to accept
the "troublesome" discs.

Thankyou Techguru 100, I'm a novice here - is there an
easy way in via XP to checking my DVD drive settings.
Thank you

You can check for DVD-ROM drive settings in Device Manager.
Go to Control Panel, System properties, hardware tab,
device manager button, then open the DVD/CD-ROM Drives
tree, right click your DVD drive and choose properties.
(Be VERY careful when changing settings, I generally
recommend avoiding change of any settings to DVD-ROM
region codes, if you make a mistake, then your poor drive
is basically shot...)
